Our first post - Hanoi

This is our first post for our trip around Asia. We will try to keep everyone updated here on our adventures around South-East Asia and beyond. No guarantees but we’ll do our best!

We left our teaching jobs in HCMC last month and we have no jobs now until next year! J Our plan is to travel around Vietnam by motorbike for a month, then fly down to Malaysia, continuing on to Thailand, Lao, Nepal and China. From China we’ll take the Trans-Mongolian train through Mongolia to Russia and then to Europe and finally back home for Christmas!

We are now in Hanoi staying with Choo (one of Dan’s Dad’s friends) who has kindly put us up for a few nights. We had the bike shipped up last Wednesday from HCMC and we picked it up on Saturday in Hanoi. It was very straightforward to pick up and the only difficulty was finding a petrol station in Hanoi before the bike cut out! For anyone interested, the shipping cost 1.2MVND (around 60USD) so it wasn’t very expensive.

At the moment we are getting ready to head off early tomorrow (Tuesday) when we start our motorbike trip from the North to the South of Vietnam. We plan to go north-west from Hanoi to visit Sapa and do some trekking before starting our long journey down to HCMC. Our route looks something like this:

That’s it for now. We will update you soon....ish
